Sherman Pictures - what we do

Sherman Pictures is a production company that focuses on producing quality feature films for the Australian and international marketplace.

Sherman Pictures also co-distributes many of its films in Australia, co-financing the distribution costs and working with physical distributors such as Dendy Films and Icon Films.

In 2000, Sherman Pictures' principal, Emile Sherman founded Ocean Pictures, also a production and distribution company . Ocean Pictures' films include:
Phillip Noyce's internationally acclaimed Rabbit-Proof Fence, starring Kenneth Branagh. Rabbit-Proof Fence was released in North America by Miramax Films and sold to all territories internationally. Ocean Pictures also co-distributed the film in Australia where it grossed over AUD$7 million at the Australian box office.
Paul Goldman's The Night We Called It a Day, starring Dennis Hopper, Melanie Griffith, Portia de Rossi, Joel Edgerton and Rose Byrne. The Night We Called It a Day was released by First Look Media in the US as All the Way and was handled by Content Films internationally.
The Australian local comedy The Honourable Wally Norman, which opened the Sydney Film Festival in 2003.

Emile Sherman produced Rod Freedman's documentary Uncle Chatzkel, which was nominated for an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Documentary and has won numerous awards at festivals around the world.

Since founding Sherman Pictures in 2004, Emile Sherman Executive Produced and Sherman Pictures co-distributed Oyster Farmer which grossed over $2.4 million at the Australian Box Office, and then produced Opal Dream directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty). Opal Dream is being released internationally in 2006 including in the US by Focus Features. Opal Dream opened the Kinderfilmfest at the 2006 Berlin Film Festival.

Most recently, he produced with Margaret Fink Neil Armfield’s Candy, starring Abbie Cornish, Heath Ledger and Geoffrey Rush. Candy was selected for official competition at the Berlin International Film Festival 2006 and has sold to all major territories internationally.

Sherman Pictures with Lama Productions is now shooting the Australian/Israeli co-production $9.99, a stop motion animation feature film based on internationally acclaimed Israeli writer Etgar Keret's short stories and directed by Tatia Rosenthal. It is being sold by Fortissimo Films and released in Australia by Dendy Films.

Sherman Pictures is producing with Wild Strawberries an adaptation of Nobel Prize winning author J.M. Coetzee's Booker Prize winning novel Disgrace starring John Malkovich shooting early 2007.
